ठूलो मान्छेसँग सानो प्रश्न

काठमाडौं
तपाई ठूलो मान्छे
बिहान 'बाथरुम' मा पस्दा मात्रै
पत्रपत्रिका पढ्न भ्याउने हुनुभो
स्लिप नपठाई
अब भेट्न नसकिने हुनुभो
हाई ! हाई !!
जताततै प्रशंसैप्रशंसा पाउन थाल्नुभो
स्वागतमा
अब नमस्ते नपुग भएर
फुलगुच्छा पनि चाहिने हुनुभो
अब त-
दिनको दुईचार ठाउँबाट
बैठक-भत्ता पनि पाउन थाल्नुभो
उद्घाटनमा अब तपाई नपुगिनहुने हुनुभो
विसर्जन अब तपाईबाटै हुनुपर्ने भो
भाषण त तपाईको पर्याय भै नै सक्यो
अब के मात्रै सम्भव छैन तपाईको इच्छामा
अब को मात्रै पछि लाग्दैन तपाईको इसारामा
अब तपाईले व्यभिचार नै सोचे पनि आवश्यकता ठहर् याइन्छ
अब तपाईले अपराध नै गरे पनि देशसेवा कहलाइन्छ
साँच्चै !
अब तपाई आकाश हुनुभो
अब तपाई आराध्य हुनुभो
रेडियोमा तपाईलाई नै सुन्छौं हामीहरु
टेलिभिजनमा तपाईलाई नै हेछौ हामीहरु
सत्ते धरोधर्म !
अब तपाई ठूलो मान्छे हुनुभो
तर महाशय !
सबै थोक जितेर पनी
सायद केही जित्नु भएन तपाईले
ठूलो मान्छे भएपछि
के एक रात पनि तपाई
रुपियाँले नटोकेको स्वाभाविक निद्रा निदाउनुभएको छ
जालझेल नसोचेर
के एक छक्काल मात्रै पनि तपाई
परिवारसँग रमाउन सक्नु भएको छ
छैन भने-
'ठूलो मान्छे' हुनुको के अर्थ रह्यो त तपाईलाई
कठै ! आफ्नै छोराको लागि पनि अब तपाई
कहिलेकाहीँ देखिने मीठो सपना हुनु भएको छ
र आफ्नै स्वास्नी-आँखामा त अब तपाई
प्रेममा सजाएभन्दा अलि ठूलो साइजको फोटो मात्र बच्नुभएको छ !! |

You are applauded everywhere
In greetings
Namaste* is not enough
You require bouquets too
These days
Everyday, you receive allowances
For the ‘meetings’ you attend
You are an indispensable part in the ‘inaugurations’
And in closing ceremonies you are a must
Your name is synonymous with ‘rhetoric’
Is there anything impossible that you desire for ?
Is there anyone who dare not follow your cues ?
All corruptions you commit
Will henceforth be regarded an ‘inevitability’
Every crime you commit will
Henceforth be considered a ‘service to the nation’
Indeed !
You are now the sky
You are now the revered one
You are heard on the radio
You are watched on television
I swear, By God !
You are now a big, big man
But Sir !
Though you’ve conquered all
There’s probably something left
Once you became a big man
Has there been a night with normal sleep
Without being bitten by a ‘money bug’ ?
Has there been a single moment that you have
Spent in the company of your family
Without hatching conspiracies ?If not,
What has it meant to you to become a ‘big man’ ?
Alas ! Just an occasional sweet dream
To your son – that is what you are
And in the eyes of your wife
A slightly larger photograph
Than the one adorned in a frame
